Recreation & Open Space for Every Resident

Recreation and Open Space: The Heart of Hoboken

Recreation and open space are not extras in Hoboken — they are at the very heart of our quality of life. Parks, playgrounds, and community programs connect neighbors, improve health, and make our city stronger. But for too long, Hoboken has lacked a comprehensive vision. That’s why Tiffanie Fisher is committed to delivering the facilities, programs, and open spaces our residents deserve.

As Mayor, Tiffanie will:

  • Build a Modern Recreation & Community Center downtown with gyms, pools, teen and senior spaces, and flexible community rooms — plans finalized in her first year, open by the end of her first term.

  • Advance the Uptown Community Center at the former YMCA, creating a second hub and pool for Hoboken while preserving critical services during construction.

  • Create a Recreation & Community Advisory Board so residents — not City Hall insiders — shape programming, field access, and capital priorities.

  • Complete Open Space Commitments including 800 Monroe, Cove Park, Maritime Park, Monarch, and Church Square Park.

  • Expand Programs for All Residents by launching summer camps and open swim, expanding senior services, and ensuring inclusive recreation for differently abled neighbors.

  • Maximize Access to Space through shared services with schools, Stevens, and nearby communities.

  • Bring Recreation Year-Round with a seasonal dome over one athletic field to extend play in every season.

  • Strengthen Partnerships with nonprofits like the Hoboken Cove Boathouse and the Hoboken Public Library to expand cultural, fitness, and educational programming.

“Recreation is more than sports — it’s community. It’s where kids learn, seniors connect, and neighbors of all ages come together. Hoboken deserves a mayor who makes this a priority.”
— Tiffanie Fisher, Councilwoman and Candidate for Mayor
