Meet Liz Urtecho

Liz Urtecho is a longtime Hoboken resident, civic advocate, and former finance professional who brings a steady, solutions-focused voice to local government. A mother of four, Liz and her husband, Erik, have lived in Hoboken for over 30 years. She holds a BS and MBA from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and helped pioneer JPMorgan’s first job-share role at the Vice President level before stepping back from her career to focus on raising her family.
She has served on the board of All Saints Episcopal Day School, led school fundraising efforts, volunteered through her church’s pastoral care team, and currently works as a part-time personal trainer with Hoboken’s senior community. She’s also completed two Ironman and 13 Half Ironman triathlons — a reflection of the discipline and perseverance she brings to everything she does.
In 2023, Liz ran for City Council in the 5th Ward, where she earned a reputation for standing up for families, neighbors, and elevating critical issues like development, quality of life, and financial responsibility. She has remained a visible and vocal presence in local government since, continuing to advocate for a more responsive and inclusive approach to leadership.
“I’m running because Hoboken needs leaders who put residents first and demand accountability from City Hall,” said Urtecho. “Hoboken needs leaders with real expertise and a track record of standing up for residents. I’m running for Council because I believe in Tiffanie’s vision: a City Hall that’s transparent, accountable, and focused on delivering real results for our community.”
“Liz is exactly the kind of person we need on the Council — principled, prepared, and focused on solving problems,” said Fisher. “She brings a deep understanding of our community and the kind of energy and accountability Hoboken residents deserve.”
Liz also co-founded Hoboken for Responsible Cannabis and Uniting for Democracy Hoboken, two local advocacy groups focused on empowering residents and ensuring their voices are heard.
